Flourished square-MS Punch all over the page

Hi friends......

The punch has a very hefty weight to it, due to the magnets inside that hold it together. The concept is simple - the paper (or card stock, cork, etc.) goes between the top punch and the bottom raised platform, allowing you to punch your shape out anywhere on your paper. No more reach constraints!

As you can see from this view of the underside of the top piece, there are four magnets on the top that are designed to align with the ones on the bottom.

The top and bottom pieces each have a flat surface on one corner (note this on the bottom piece pictured above), and other three corners are rounded. This is how the punch "tells" you if it is lined up correctly. If you put a round edge above the flat edge, it won't line up right: the punch will skew itself due to the polarity in the magnets (as pictured above).

The punching mechanism, housed in the top portion of the punch, is fairly heavy-duty, and it looked to me like it would give very clean, crisp cuts.

Once you get your paper cinched between the magnets, you have just a smidgeon of wiggle room. Those magnets hold on tightly. To help myself out and position the paper right where I wanted it, I realized after a few off-center results that I should draw grid lines on the underside of my paper.
Lightbulb! It is much easier to get the punch exactly where you want it that way.

I whipped up a few quick cards using the punch. Above, I paired the Martha Stewart paper with some Stampendous stamps, and used the window cut out by the Flourish Square to frame my sentiment.

For this card, I used the cutouts from my cork tests to make a border behind the bird I cut out from some of the In Nature paper. I adore these flourished cork "medallions".

I really liked the Punch All Over the Page, and can see adding a few more to my collection. It takes a bit of practice to get the hang of the correct pressure and speed, but the results are worth the wait! The versatility they allow is wonderful. Like most of Martha Stewart's products, she has once again thought of a super useful tool! Have you tried these yet? What did you think?

Pros:

Design allows user to put punch anywhere on a design
Will punch through a variety of materials
These will stack, which makes for simpler storage

Cons:

There is a bit of a learning curve
Precise placement of the punch can be difficult (I recommend those gridlines!)
I wish they had nesting shapes, so you could make mats and frames for your windows/cutouts

I had the wonderful privilege to learn under the talented paint designer Miss Donna Downey when she visited Singapore in April.

It was totally something out of the box for me as it's been years since I touch painting. To get my hands on again was so pleasurable....What more to learn with Ms Donna was something i wanted to do and I grab the opportunity to go all the way to meet her.. She was such a wonderful and friendly person and she shared many nuggets with us..

I had a wonderful time there to, meeting new friends and not forgetting so happy that my name was the first to be called out for the lucky draw contest..boy was I lucky!

Introducing The Art of Parchment Craft

Several years ago I learned "Parchment craft".And I loved it.

Parchment Craft involves creating beautifully embossed, delicate designs on parchment paper (Thicker

version of tracing/transparent paper. The craft utilizes a combina

tion of techniques

which include pattern tracing, embossing, stippling, perforating and coloring.

Parchment craft dates back to the 14th century. The craft began with communion cards and devotional pictures in Europe and the Netherlands.

19th century Paris saw a change in the parchment cards. The themes became more romantic and personal, introducing floral themes, cherubs, and portraits, and introduced embossing to the art creating the raised effect. Most of the borders, perforations, and cuts were done by machine at this time.

The art of Parchment Craft is enjoying a revival today, with the cards being hand drawn, painted, perforated and embossed, all done by hand, with the most common tools being a single needle to perforate the holes, and very small scissors to cut out the various designs. The items crafted in this manner require a great deal of patience, time, and ability. If you

are lucky enough to have a handmade Parchment card, bookmark, or other item, cherish it, because it was made and given with a great deal of love.

I have Scor-pal and it's back in store I have both centimetres and inches. I have found this to be one of the most usable and fantastic tool to use for scoring, creating envelopes, boxes...card folds and etc...you can only be limited by your imagination..because the Scor-pal creates accurate and precise scores giving you professional looking folds, no more crooked cards. Multiple scores are done in seconds without moving the paper. Perfect for accordion folds, boxes, fancy fold cards and other interesting projects!

Instructions on How To Use the Scor-Pal
1. Place Scor-Pal on a flat surface with ruler at the top.
2. Place cardstock on the scoring surface. The sides and the top act as fences to properly align your paper for accurate scoring. Align with the top and either side fence depending on the size of cardstock that you are using.
3. There are notches at the beginning of each score line to show you where the groove begins. With one hand holding the cardstock, hold the scoring tool as you would a pen or pencil (45 degree angle). Note: When working with double sided Designer paper that has a white core, lower the angle of the tool (30 degrees).
4. Carefully draw the scoring tool down the paper, using an even pressure.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The first time you use Scor-Pal practice on a piece of scrap cardstock to determine the amount of pressure needed for your “hand”. To clean your Scor-Pal, wipe with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly before using.
Card Making Tips and Scrapbook Paper Information Before Scoring with Scor-Pal
TIP ONE:
One of the key benefits of Scor-Pal is the ability to score multiple score lines at the SAME TIME, WITHOUT MOVING THE PAPER! This is a card makers dream because it is invaluable when making grid, reverse grid cards, gate fold, accordion folds, brochure/flyer scoring, box making, origami, iris folding and BOXES galore!
*When possible, always score with the grain of the paper. Cup the paper in your hands bringing the sides together. If it bends easily this is the grain of the paper. Turn the paper in the other direction.
TIP TWO:
It is best to fold your card so that the score line is to the OUTSIDE of the fold. The bump goes to the inside. This gives a neater appearance to the inside of the fold. When you make the score line you are spreading the paper fibers ready for the fold. If you fold so the score line is to the inside you are squashing the fibers you just spread apart.
TIP THREE:
When making accordion folds score at intervals, then turn the paper over and score in between the previous scores i.e. a one inch accordion along an 11” length, score at 1”, 3”, 5”, 7” and 9”. Turn the paper over, score at 2”, 4”, 6”, 8” and 10”. The indentation is the mountain fold.
If you are making the standard A2 card, 4 1/4” x 5 1/2”, score the full eleven inch length at 4 1/4” then cut the cardstock at 5 1/2”. This way you are saving time by only scoring once to make two cards.

There have been many request for classes and I am trying to arrange time to suit your preference. Therefore I have come out with the idea of a monthly theme class.

In January, we had three classes held and it was full! Many of you are returning for the February class..I am so glad!

This special theme class will be held on

13th February - 2pm (Kids) and 4pm ( adults)

15th February - 12 pm (Kids) and 2pm (Kids/adults)

Fees rm25 per class for kids (Sign up for both days rm45)

Adults rm45 per class. (Sign up for both days rm85)

The 12pm class is almost full and I will be opening the 2nd class at 2pm. Thus Adult class will begin at 4pm

Hi friends...

We had much fun at our January theme class yesterday.."Cherry Blossoms and such"sessions.

We made two cards... for this month's lesson and the kids enjoyed themselves very much!

They had their first attempt on punches and made their handmade first cards

Even the mums joined in and had fun with their kids....

Looking forward to February Special theme class....on " LOVE is in the Air"...

The children and their own master pieces......so proud of themselves and all went home happy...

The next class had much fun as well making their first greeting cards..and showing them off to the camera....

You will need some craft essentials and tools to begin your lessons with me.

I recommend you to start your lessons with my Punch 101 course which will cover a series of basic punch Art techniques to help you understand the versatility of the punches.

You can then continue on to Punch 201 and then move on to Punch Floret Blossoms series....

Holiday craft projects for kids

I found this simple project for you to enjoycrafting with your kids....

It's easy and fun as you head down to the park or beach on a bright summer day and fly a kite you’ve made yourself!

With these super simple papercrafting kite instructions, you can make dozens of fun kites to fly high!

Instructions

1. Trim a piece of patterned paper or cardstock to 8.5 x 11

2. Trim the edges of the paper using a Border punch

3. Fold the paper in half, forming an 5.5 x 8.5 rectangle.

4. Fold one edge of the paper diagonally, then fold one side out forming a kite shape.

5. Use adhesive to attach a bamboo skewer to help maintain shape.

6. Use a variety of punches to decorate your kite.

7. Fold the “spine” of the kite several times to ensure that it stands on it’s own –

then punch one hole, and adhere string

or ribbon

Have fun with different colors and patterns of paper, and a variety of punched shapes. This is a great project for kids to complete – Adults, you

simply need to help fold. Enjoy your kite flying!

Christmas is another 10 weeks away and I am getting all excited to bring out my Christmas tree from the storeroom...Hooray!
Here are some cards I made for this year's Christmas..with the snowflake punch which I absolutely love because I use it only once a year :( oohhh such a gorgeous design and the cards look delightful here in Malaysia.....We need the winter snow.... it's humid and very hot lately.

Look at what Dzuzi sent me this time... A Halloween Bento set..See the little ghost cheese piece creatively decorated with eyes and mouth....using the cn12 paw punch unto a seaweed. I think this is very creative..and fun too.
Bento is now a popular craft and punches are also being explored in food industry now. How amazing!...Punching on a piece of seaweed.

See the mini music punch being used here on the fish balls....so cute...certainly will delight your little eyes.......on the snails too....so creative!

Using the mini cp1 daisy-s for the hair and bits and pieces for the expression punches to create her own little expressions on the fish ball......

After that you can even use the remnants of the negative pieces to design on your cheese pieces.....punching them into squares and lay them over the animals..... very nice Carolyn!

I handmade this card for a friend who ordered it last week for a newly wed couple. I used baby blue metallic card, a paper doily, lace, embossed daisy flowers made by Carla craft cp2 daisy punch, leaves by EK success punch and embossed sticker to create the entire lay out.
The paper lace was created with a border punch.

I believe a handmade card adds a personal touch and brings much joy to the one who receives it.

At Tomorrow's Memories- Attended a class to dress up Miss Charlotte
Using chipboard and Tim Holtz's craft products...creating a 1500 costume with acid free patterned paper and embeliishment

Fixing the netting for the dress.......... looks easy but quite tedious and delicate... Not easy trying to hold her dress up in Glue.
Here you see the dress being help in position with a wooden peg....

I enjoyed my class very much..........

Earlier in the week I attended a rubber Stamping Class at Joondalup, A lovely place called Scrapbook Central. I met a group of lovely ladies and we created 3 cards in 90 minutes. our Theme was Paris!

See the lovely delicious quiche on the table....hot and yummy..Courtesy of one of the ladies...I enjoyed my time with this group of crafty ladies

My finished cards..........techniques used tearing,stamping with various ink types, layering, embossing, shadowing and shading.
Earlier I attended the scarpbooking class making a scrap layout which was absolutely gorgeous....Sorry no Pictures!

I went on to visit another 5 scrapbook shops and shopped till I drop.... grabbed my craft materials and had much fun. I loved this trip..One of the most thereupedic one because I did what I wanted!

Jumbo EK Success Punch...my personal new collections purchased from Singapore in June

I bought these lovely paper shapers jumbo punches from EK Success and I love them....look at my first few cards I made and all were sold out at the Good Tidings carnival which was held in July recently....

These are really great for scrapbooking...If you use such huge designs for cards keep the punch shapes minimal. It will not crowd the eyes...

I met Miss Dzuzi online and she is a bento mummy who bought the expression punches from my blog. When she started sharing with me about her passion to create healthy creative lunch boxes for her kids, I took on an interest to find out more. To my surprise....wow this is a real crafty healthy way to make our kids enjoy a nutritious and wholesome meal. We went on chatting and sharing with one another...I am happy to have served her the carla expression punches which she had been looking for a long while. Now this is what she made upon receiving the punches....

A "Bento" is basically a boxed meal that consists of a main entrée, several side dishes and rice in one box. Without cooking different dishes, or spending a lot of money to get different plates at restaurants, kids can get a rich amount of nutrition from one box. The colors and playful arrangements can certainly entice the young ones to enjoy and finish their snacks....Even more importantly, they're really delicious and prepared with love!
